party | simple Barbie party

One of my chickies is having a birthday soon. I thought I would share what we did for her party last year. Last year she really wanted to have a Barbie birthday party.  Barbie birthday party supplies are hard to come by and I really didn't want to shell out a whole lot of money on decorations. Plus I'll be honest I love to create and love simple things and some of the kids party supplies are kind of gaudy (right?). I googled and found some inspiration and put together a very simple, yet pretty Barbie party. We were both happy! :)

The cake was made by me and it's the classic bake the cake in the glass mixing bowl and flip it upside down and pop your doll pick in there.  Easy peasy.

We took old tin cans and covered them with scrapbook paper and tied on a pretty silk bow. We added tissue paper flowers.  I followed the tutorial found here to make the flowers.

The cupcakes were probably my favorite thing.  I used my Silhouette cutter to cut my scrapbook paper into cupcake wrappers. I punched out a scalloped circle to attach to the wrapper. Again I used to my Silhouette to cut out the old-fashioned Barbie Silhouette.  The Barbie Silhouette I  found as a free download here.  They came as Photoshop Brushes so I had to do a little work (but nothing hard) to make the silhouette into something I could transfer over and use on my Silhouette cutter.  My newest favorite thing to do...and it really does make life easy if you ask me...is to frost my cupcakes with a piping bag and Wilton tip #1M.  The cupcakes look sooo pretty and nicely done.  Plus they have a lot of frosting....my favorite thing!!  I topped those off with some Wilton white nonpareils and they looked so pretty!

Lastly I put together a little party hat for the party girl. I followed the tutorial from Jones Design Company found here.

If you have any questions let me know!

How creative and pretty. LOVE the black and pink with white accents. Can't wait to see what you do this year.

tried to answer your question on my blog today....oh my goodness, you made me blush. I'm pretty much the opposite of stylish I'm afraid. Ha! :) Thanks for being so sweet!
